In theory, Rolling Thunder Revue: A Bob Dylan Story by Martin Scorsese borrows Dylan’s vision from Renaldo and Clara and recorrects it from a retrospective point of view. The film is an apt portrayal of the musician’s myriad life experiences, explaining the inspirations behind his music. Finally, Ben Whishaw channels the poet Arthur Rimbaud, who inspired Dylan. Ledger plays Robbie Clark, an actor dealing with the side effects of fame, signifying Dylan’s troubled relationships. Richard Gere embodies Billy the Kid, based on the character the musician played in the film Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid. Blanchett plays Jude Quinn, a musician whose arc resembles Dylan’s controversial period in the ‘60s when he was transitioning from a folk singer to an electric guitarist. Bale stars as Jack Rollins, embodying Dylan in his protest phase. The film was directed by Todd Haynes and starred several ace performers such as Cate Blanchett, Christian Bale, Richard Gere, Heath Ledger, Marcus Carl Franklin, and Ben Whishaw.įranklin plays a young boy obsessed with Woodie Guthrie’s music, just like Dylan was in childhood.
